Heading out…

“Don’t think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don’t need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment, and all you need to keep that going is three meals a day. Travel light.”  Matthew 10:9

imageThis morning’s scripture is appropriate for today as we embark for our summer trip. We’ve got the car loaded for our six-week journey–more “equipment” than we need, and I have a cooler packed with lunch and snack items. All set for 1500 miles.

I’ll be doing some work while gone–speaking to a Stephen Ministry group on the theme, “Who Takes Care of You?” The scripture comes out of a conversation Jesus had with the disciples preparing them for their ministry. His advice serves me well. I am the equipment God uses for my ministry. That’s all I need, plus my iPad, iPhone, and the internet.

Lord, give us the equipment we need to serve others who are less fortunate. Amen.
