5 K run for Jesus

“Strip down, start running–and never quit!” Hebrews 12:1

imageI’m not a runner, but I do admire my friends, cousins, and others who take to the street, track, mountain trail, or treadmill to run off calories, frustration, or to get that “high” I hear a runner gets. For some reason, whenever I did try running, I never got beyond two miles and never felt anything but exhaustion. Perhaps, if I’d had a running companion to cheer me on, I’d have been able to make a 5K marathon.

Paul tell us in Hebrews that Jesus never lost sight of where he was headed, and that we need to study how Jesus ran the race and do the same. The New Testament in the┬áBible is the source for the training we need to run our own faith marathon. Prayer will give us endurance. Just as in training to run a marathon, one can’t just show up on the track or in church on Sunday morning and be fit for the long run of life.

Lord, give me strength to run, day after day, toward the cross. Amen.
