“Fulfill your obligations as a citizen. Pay your taxes, pay your bills, and respect your leaders.” Romans 13:7

Apostle Paul reminded the people of Rome that all governments are under God. No matter at whatever level—from homeowner association boards to the highest governing bodies that are established to keep peace and order for the people.

I know a young man who repeatedly has gone to court to fight speeding tickets and other violations. He claims the charges were all bogus and the policemen are just picking on him. I remind him it is his responsibility to make sure he isn’t singled out for an arrest. Verse 4 of Romans 13 says, “If you’re breaking the rules right and left, watch out. The police aren’t there just to be admired in their uniforms.”

As long as I don’t become foolish like the young man and try to make my own laws, I can admire instead of fear the hard-working police officers in their uniforms!

Dear Lord, help us to be a good citizen—starting where we live. Amen.
