“The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way” 2 Corinthians 6:12 (The Message Bible)
I like to say that Iowa is a state where tall corn, and girls, grow. I don’t remember ever feeling small! I grew fast—keeping pace with my brother fourteen-months older—and was at my full height by the time I began high school. It came in handy when I played basketball, but I must admit that the smaller players were scrappier and equally good at making baskets.
Yesterday, my daughter gifted me with a pedicure, and while sitting side by side with our feet being stroked, she joked about how I got my money’s worth out of the foot rub, because my feet are four sizes larger than hers are. Long ago, I accepted the fact that I have a good “understanding” and that they keep me in balance with the ground I walk on.
What I hope my family and friends see (in addition to my tall stature and big feet) is my confidence in who I am and how proud I am of standing tall for what I believe.
Dear Lord, when I look at my raspberry red toenails, I am proud that my feet are making big footprints in my faith journey. Amen.
