A man named Stephen . . .

“Stephen, brimming with God’s grace and energy was doing wonderful things among the people, unmistakable signs that God was among them.” Acts 6:8

Stephen ministryThe apostles saw the goodness of the Lord in Stephen. For much needed assistance in their ministry, they chose Stephen to help distribute food to the widows in the Christian community. However, for all the good Stephen did, he became a victim of the religious leaders in the area, who falsely accused him of plotting against them and their customs. Eventually, Stephen was stoned to death.

While being questioned, Stephen stayed true to his beliefs and to his ministry. Today, we remember Stephen through the organization Stephen Ministry, which serves many denominations across the U.S. and Canada, and in twenty-four other countries.

Years ago, I became a Stephen Ministers and spent time with care receivers, listening to their stories and needs. In return, I offered them encouragement and prayer.

Dear Lord, thank you for the people willing to accept the calling of becoming a Stephen Minister. Amen.
