“While it was still night, way before dawn, he [Jesus] got up and went out to a secluded spot and prayed.” Mark 1:35
A friend who recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary called and said, “Linda, I feel as if I’m losing myself in my marriage–everything is good in our relationship. My husband has taken up drawing and painting, and now he spends a lot of time in my craft room. I’m happy for him, but I’ve lost my space and passion for the things I used to do.”
We chatted. I asked, “Do you have a quiet corner to meditate and read—to be by yourself?” The couple had moved from a large home to a two-bedroom condo, perfect for their needs. But now my friend needed to be creative in finding a secluded spot to find herself again.
As much as I like being around people, I have a place to be alone—any time of the day. Do you have a place like that, too?
Dear Lord, we know through the example of Jesus that we need time and place to find you. Help us to find that place in the midst of the busyness around us. Amen.
