A spirit-filled adventure?

“Philip showed up in Azotus and continued north, preaching the Message in all the villages along that route until he arrived at Caesarea.” Acts 8:40

An angel told Philip to take a desolate road from Jerusalem down to Gaza. Along the way he met an Ethiopian eunuch also headed to Gaza. The spirit told Philip to get into the chariot and ride with the eunuch. Along the path, the eunuch asked to be baptized, and as they came up out of the water, the Spirit of God took Philip away. Now, in today’s text we discover he has landed in Azotus where he continued his journey. One can only assume he had spent time in a spiritual twilight zone.

Even now, when I hear the theme song from the TV show The Twilight Zone, I revert back to my bedroom in the far northwest corner of our big farm house–about as far from the TV as I could be. There I hid under the covers until I could no longer hear that suspenseful, haunting tune.

I’m thinking if the Spirit of God came and took me as I’m writing this message, you’d see my long arms and legs thrashing around and my body resisting the strong force. But if I didn’t succumb, I would miss the adventure like Philip had which allowed him to land on his feet and continue his ministry. Just think of all the new stories I would have to share in Daily Meditation Moments.

God, send your spirit to encourage us to venture into ministry wherever we are. Amen.
