“Our lives get in step with God and all others by letting him set the pace, not by proudly or anxiously trying to run the parade.” Romans 3:28 (The Message Bible)
From today’s sport section of the Arizona Republic newspaper: “Sun guard Steve Nash played just under five minutes in Sunday’s All-Star Game, volunteering to play a reduced role to allow other plays more minutes.
Nash set the record last night as the oldest guard to play in an all-star game. He may also go down in history as being the wisest all-star. He made no attempt to shoot, and in less than five minutes made four assists to help others shine. This Arizona Suns player is truly a star in God’s planet. He left his ego in his warm-up jacket and gave others a chance to shine in God’s planet, too.
Many sport or movie super stars take the court or stage for self-glory. I can see how that happens. One needs a strong ego to compete, but when Ego gets in the way of God’s will, then the source of our success has been fouled or upstaged..
Dear Lord, You are the drum major in my parade. May I never lose pace in my faith journey.
