Being accepted…

“Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you.” ¬†Matthew 10:40

Everyone wants to feel accepted–in school, in the community, in church, and especially in your own home. My heart aches when I hear about adults who never felt accepted in their own home as a child and feel they were unloved. My home wasn’t unblemished, of course, but there was not one minute of my childhood that I didn’t feel loved and accepted.

Last weekend my class had it’s 50th reunion. Once again I felt loved and accepted by the group. Everyone, regardless of the activities we did in school or the amount of connection we had with each other as a teenager, has become part of the history of the Class of 1964. That’s the way it should be. No longer is one a basketball star, a cheerleader, a Thesbian, or on the other hand, a socially shy person behind the scenes.

Lord,God you sent Jesus to show us how to accept everyone, just as God accepts us. Thanks. Amen.
