Brothers and Sisters — Daily Meditation Moment

[Jesus said] “Obedience is thicker than blood. The person who obeys God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” Mark 3:35 (The Message Bible)

One of the disciples had just told Jesus that his mother and brothers were looking for him. Jesus told him that his siblings and mother weren’t more important to him than any ordinary person who is obedient to God. They are all equally important.

I am amazed when someone tells me that he or she has no relatives, except for some distant cousins. My husband and I have over seventy-five first cousins. At one time, we had around two dozen aunts and uncles, plus their spouses. With great aunts and uncles, the total came in far over a hundred close relatives! The disappointing thing about having so many relatives is that it is impossible to keep track of them—even with Facebook.

I’m not sure how Jesus’ mother and brothers felt about this scripture—I know how much I love my mother and brothers. But I love knowing that God loves me more than I could possibly love my own family.

Thank you, Lord, for giving me a large family of blood relatives and sisters and brothers in Christ. Amen.
