“And Mary said, ‘Yes, I see it all now: I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve. Let it be with me Just as you say.’” Luke 1:38 (The Message Bible)
Mary accepted the angel’s message: “You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and call his name Jesus.” That doesn’t mean she didn’t wonder and fret about this pronouncement. “But how? I’ve never slept with a man.” (vs. 33 & 34).
One day a casual acquaintance asked me to lead their church’s women’s retreat. My reaction was, “Why are you asking me?” I had been involved with many retreats, but had never been the keynote speaker. She said, “I know you can do it and would be good as the presenter.” I felt a nudge—possibly the Holy Spirit—and agreed to do it. The next nine months of preparing for the retreat were like being pregnant and then giving birth. The weekend retreat went well. Because I said, “yes” I have been blessed to do retreats all over the U.S.
When were you called and wondered why? Did you say “yes?”
Dear Lord, help us move out of our comfort zone to serve you. Amen.
