“You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life.”
The baptism of Jesus is one of the most important documentations in the bible. When John the Baptist baptized Jesus, it began a sacrament in many churches for all of God’s children to participate. I was four months old when my family gathered around the baptismal font, and the pastor sprinkled consecrated water on me. Uncle Bud and Aunt Luella stood by my parents and promised to help raise me in the faith—to pray for me and to teach me the Lord’s Prayer and the Ten Commandments.
Last year I was saddened when the last of my baptismal sponsors died. But my mother lives and continues to pray for me. Better yet, God watches over me, and I can almost hear him saying, “You are my daughter, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life!”
It gives me a sense of responsibility knowing that God is proud of me to keep growing in my faith.
Dearest Lord, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit that connects me to you. Amen
