“A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds….Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise…The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God. Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises!” Proverbs 3,28
Today, family and friends gathered to say farewell to my friend, Cindy, at a Celebration of Life service. She received news two years ago that she had an uphill path of chemo and other treatments to treat cancer in several organs.
Cindy and I worked together at The Church of the Palms and became soul-partners in ministry. We’d talk about deep subjects, including. On one conversation, she told me she wanted to live long enough to see her adopted six-year-old grandson grow up. God granted her two years. Nearly a year ago, I had another conversation with her about dying. and she said, “I’ve already planned my funeral.” Then she added, “I’m in no hurry to use it, but I must say, I’m excited about seeing my Heavenly Father.”
I pray when my life cycle on Earth is nearing the end (if I have mindfulness to know it), that I can receive the news and the face the reality of what I will be facing and handle it as graciously as Cindy did. Her faith in God never wavered. I “festoon her life with praises.”
Dear Heavenly Father, accept Cindy into your Kingdom and delight in her. Amen.
