“Suddenly there was an angel at his side and light flooding the room…the handcuffs fell off his wrists.” Acts 12:7 (The Message)
The handcuffs fell off Peter’s wrists and saved him from the fate of King Herod. My story isn’t as dramatic, but my bound spirit and body were released one day nearly twenty years ago.
I sat in front of the east kitchen window, letting the warm rays beat on my bony back. Too weak to do anything more than sigh, prayer was the farthest thing from my mind. It was then that I heard a soft voice, “Lo, I am with you always.” I looked around to see if my mother had come into the room. I was alone.
Later that same day, while going through the mail, the July Lutheran Women magazine dropped onto my lap. Streams of radiant orange, yellow, and golden lights formed a sunrise on the cover page. Near the bottom I read, “Lo, I am with you always to the end of time.” At that moment I knew I’d been visited that morning by the voice of an angel. I just didn’t get it until the second notice fell onto my lap.
Dear God of miracles, I give you thanks for that special day on my journey to being healed. Amen.
