“It’s God’s own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites!” Acts:10:34 (The Message Bible)
In writing Daily Meditation Moments, I use scripture from a daily devotional book I pick up at church. I find myself amazed at how often the scripture for the day fits into my life or to the situations of the world, such as the words in Acts and the words President Obama spoke yesterday in regards to same-sex marriage. Whatever you believe about this social issue, much of what he said makes sense to me, such as, “In the end the values that I care most deeply about and she [Michelle Obama] cares most deeply about is how we treat other people.”
We’ve read the history books—women now vote, blacks can sit in the front of the bus, children can go to whatever school they want (at least in our area), women are ordained in my church. None of this happened without getting attention on the front page of newspapers, without tears, bloodshed (in some cases), and without hope.
Dear Lord, let us never give up on hope that someday all people will be treated as equals to one another. Amen.
