Dining In . . .

“Don’t waste your energy striving for perishable food like that. Work for the food that sticks with you, food that nourishes your lasting life, food the Son of Man provides. John 6:27

imageWe had a great dinner today while visiting our friends in Nebraska. Verla’s a farmwife who can cook for a crew without breaking into a sweat. Every dish is prepared not only to taste good, but also to look good, be well balanced in texture, color, and nutrition. Besides the good food, the conversation around the dinner table made us linger and eat more than we normally would–delaying dessert for a few hours.

I like to think the food Jesus refers to is like food that sticks with you and nourishes your soul to last until we dine in the presence of the Lord. Like the wonderful dinner we ate today–even with all the calories–I wanted to linger for one more bite and savor the meal.

Dear Lord, let us dine on your words and fill our hearts and souls. Amen.
