Doing what is asked of you…

“Noah did everything God commanded him.” Genesis 7:5

I’m not too fond of being commanded to do anything. Perhaps if I had served in the military as my brothers and husband did, I would have had to learn to take commands without feeling I was losing control of my own thoughts and desires.

Noah, out of obedience, did whatever God asked of him. He didn’t see it as losing control; he put his trust in God and accepted without argument he had been chosen to follow through with God’s command to build an ark to save himself, his family, and the animals of the Earth from the great flood.

One time as a teenager after slipping into the house after midnight, my mother gave me a command: “You are grounded for two weeks!” I was flooded with disbelief that I had been caught! Mother didn’t give me a choice–it was a cut and dry command, and I knew if I didn’t obey, she’d complicate my social life.

Dear God, forgive me for being stubborn and ignoring your commands. Amen.
