Don’t give up …

“Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:18-19

dreamBefore Glen and I were married, he told me he would never go to church with me. I was young and in love, and I just assumed when he saw how important my church life was he would want to be part of it too. My pastor would see Glen at social events, and on one occasion, he cornered Glen and said, “Would you like to come to the next new member class?” Glen responded with a resounding, “No, I am not interested.” But Pastor never gave up on Glen, and finally one time after getting another “No,” he said, “How would you know until you tried the class?” Glen accepted the invitation and told me, “I’m doing this for you.” Fine, I thought, but I knew the Holy Spirit was working on him.

After several weeks of classes, it was time to make a commitment to join the church, but first he would need to be baptized. Once again, he said, “I’m only doing this for you.” By then I knew the Holy Spirit had him. God doesn’t give up on his children. Glen became a good Christian who witnessed to his children and went to church with me for 47 years.

God, thank you for not giving up on people who don’t know what they are missing. Amen.
