“Don’t quit, even if it costs you your life. Stay there believing. I have a Life-Crown sized and ready for you.” Revelation 2:10b
Last night I received a message from a friend who asked for prayer for herself. She had just received a diagnosis no one wants to hear. “I’m ready for what God has in store for me,” she said, “And I’m going to fight this!” I responded, “Yes, my friend, I will pray!”
Later today I will go to the hospital as a volunteer to visit patients and offer prayer and encouragement. This huge “institute of illness” is the last place I want to be after hearing my friend’s news. But I won’t quit … I’ll ask God to take me out of my spiritual slump. I’ll put on a smile and boldly walk into each room and ask the patient, “What brought you in here?” And, perhaps someone will add a bit of humor to the moment by saying, “An ambulance.”
Today my friend will learn what she is facing for treatment. I sent her a message, “May you find God’s peace in all that you learn today…” And, I thought about sending her flowers, but perhaps I’ll get her a pair of boxing gloves for the fight she has begun.
Dear Lord, when we face trying times, put that “don’t quit” determination into our hearts, minds, and souls. Amen.
