Even the angels were envious…

“Do you realize how fortunate you are?” 1 Peter 1:12

imageYesterday, my three brothers (two from Iowa and one from California) and their wives were present with our local family and friends to celebrate my mother’s 93rd birthday. Many times during the evening, I heard, “I am so fortunate…”

In today’s lesson, Peter shares his overwhelming awe of all he had seen and learned through his ministry with Jesus. He told the crowd of believers that because they had not seen, nor heard, yet kept on believing, they would get what they were looking forward to: total salvation.

I feel fortunate to have had a full life of walking along side my family and then listening to their stories this weekend, which brought us up to date on the things we did not see. And, as my new tea mug says, “so blessed I have been because my mother is also my friend.”

Lord, let us feel fortunate for all the blessings you have given us, and my there be many, many more birthday celebrations for my mother. Amen.
