Fleeing — Daily Meditation Moment

December 28

“He got up, took the child and his mother under cover of darkness. They were out of town and well on their way by daylight.” Matthew 2:13 (The Message Bible)

In the Phoenix area, housing continues to be in the recession slump. It’s common to find homes which have been abandoned by the owners. Many homes that go into foreclosure are purchased through auction. When the neww owner goes into the home, they often find furniture, clothing, toys, and even photographs left behind. One has to wonder if the family had to flee in the night for their own protection from creditors or even something worse.

Joseph was told in a dream to get out of Bethlehem because King Herod had issued an order to have all baby boys under the age of two killed. In their haste to leave, they no doubt took only what they needed to get by with while on the road, too.

Dear Lord, help us flee from danger in our own lives. Amen.
