“I prayed for this child, and GOD gave me what I asked for. And now I have dedicated him to GOD. He’s dedicated to GOD for life.” 1 Samuel 1:28
Hannah wanted a baby, but never got pregnant. Today, a woman, such as Hannah, wanting a child would go to all lengths and costs to have a baby. Fertility clinics thrive on the desperate desires of women to become pregnant.
A woman who goes through the arduous routine to become fertile and then successfully becoming pregnant would not relate to the story of Hannah in 1 Samuel. Hannah prayed that she could become pregnant—the only hope for a baby. God heard her prayers and gave her a baby and joy filled her heart. Hannah weaned Samuel and then took him to the temple to be raised. In the next chapter, Hannah prayed again, “I’m bursting with God-news! I’m walking on air. I’m laughing at my rivals. I’m dancing my salvation.”
This story didn’t end the way one might expect. It is like the unlikely scenario of a woman praying for a child and then giving it up for adoption. Hannah had faith that God gave her this child for his glory, not her glory.
Dear God, please give me faith to trust in you and live for your glory. Amen.
