“He [God] said, ‘Go to the Temple and take your stand. Tell the people everything there is to say about this Life.’” Acts 5:20
When God says, “Go!” we are expected to get up and go, even if we are imprisoned. In Peter’s case, he and other apostles were imprisoned in Jerusalem for preaching about Jesus. When God told them to “Go” and continue ministering, they escaped the prison walls without the guards opening the doors.
In our own imprisonment (doubt, fear, distrust, etc.), God is calling us to come out and become part of ministry in whatever way we can. Nearly ten years ago, I was called out of my comfort zone and asked to do a retreat for a group of 50 women. I couldn’t believe I was being asked to do this. I doubted the request was God calling me. I said I’d do the retreat, and chose the theme, “STOP, ADJUST, and MOVE ON.” I labored for months preparing my five hour presentation. As the retreat opened, I felt God’s gift of peace freeing me from my fears. It felt good to be in front of a group, and I continue to feel called into the ministry of presenting and encouraging others to move out of their comfort zone.
Dear Lord, give us a boost to step forward when called to minister to others. Amen.
