“The first thing he did after finding where Jesus lived was find his own brother, Simon.” John 1:41 (The Message Bible)
A friend recently said, “I just read a great book, ‘Neither Wolf Nor Dog’ (by Kent Nerburn). It’s a great Native American read. I know you’d enjoy it, too.”
How often do you get a hint on a great Mexican restaurant or a resale shop and then pass on the find to someone else? When the disciples’ gut feeling told them that Jesus was someone special, they couldn’t keep it to themselves. Andrew went to his brother Simon and told him he’s got to meet this guy.
The moment Jesus saw Simon he said, ‘You’re John’s son, Simon? From now on your name is Cephas’ (or Peter, which means “Rock”).” Because Peter’s brother couldn’t bridle his enthusiasm for what he had found, Peter became the “rock” on which the church was built.
It’s easy to share newly-found information with our family and friends, but why is it so hard to share our faith with someone and invite them to go to church with us?
Dear Lord, because we know how much you love us, help us want to share this good news with others. Amen.
