Come on, let’s go back to God He hurt us, but he’ll heal us. He hit us hard, but he’ll put us right again. In a couple of days we’ll feel better. By the third day he’ll have made us brand-new.” Hosea 6:1-2
These verse is appropriate for Advent, as it is full of hope. The people of Israel knew they were on a short leash with God. However, God through Hosea to let them know they would have another chance to get right with God.
God is about giving us a second chance…third chance…, etc., etc. until we figure out we can’t get through life by worshipping idols (modern day ones) or by ignoring God. Once again, in Hosea, instead of God playing baseball—three strikes and you’re out, he’s offering Israel a chance to start over.
One of my friends has an adult child who has spent years in rebellious behavior. The child has returned home again to get her life in order. Cautiously, her parents are playing the game of baseball, too—three strikes and you’re out. But, as God will not abandon his children, neither will my friend.
Lord, give us the rules to the game of life so that will not strike out. Amen.
