“I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.” Romans 8:39
Years ago, my brother and his wife returned from a vacation in Norway and raved of the beautiful and peaceful country. Later, we heard that one man, with a couple of bombs, turned the business area of Oslo into a war zone. Then he killed dozens of innocent people at an island camp.
Tragedy continues to haunt the U.S. and the whole world. It seems almost daily we hear of violence and death caused by someone or several people who attack innocent people. I have always thought, “If they want to leave this earth, why don’t they just take their own lives and leave the rest of the people alone.” But one cannot get inside the mind of someone who has a goal to take others with him or her.
I wondered what the people in Norway—especially those immediately affected by this tragedy, were thinking about these words of the Apostle Paul: “I’m absolutely convinced that nothing can get between us and God’s love.” We, too, have to hang on to this scripture and not give up on the God of promise and love.
Dear God, help us cope with tragedies and tough times and give us courage to make a difference. Amen.
