“They [the disciples] agreed they were in this for good, completely together in prayer, the women included.” Acts 1:14

100 percentAfter Jesus ascended to heaven, the disciples returned to Jerusalem, gathered together in the upper room, and made a pact: We are in this for good.

Over the years, I have been part of many groups and always gave them 100 (or so) percent effort. Looking back, I see how I interpreted good to meanĀ as long as the organization fed my mind or soul.

For the past four years, I’ve been a Medicine Woman (name taken from the book The Medicine Woman by Lynn Andrews). My friend Valerie started this group by carefully selecting women from her friendship circle and acquaintances who had the same goal: To grow spiritually as an individual and as a circle of friends. Over the years the group has turned over in membership, themes have changed, and only three of the original twelve regularly attend the monthly meetings.

The Medicine Women group no longer feeds my soul. After much pondering, I know it is time to remove myself from this circle of women and find new avenues that excite me enough to pull away from my big-screen TV for an evening.

Lord, help us graciously remove ourselves from situations that no longer serve their purpose. Amen.
