“It’s resurrection, resurrection, always resurrection, that undergirds what I do and say the way I live.”
1 Corinthians 15:32
A year ago, hardly anyone knew the name Meghan Trainor. Then came “All About that Bass” – a song that sold over six million copies all around the world! Someone finally explained to me that the “bass” referred to her booty, and not to a big fiddle or the base for something to sit upon.
The words of the chorus repeat: “I’m all about that bass, ’bout that bass, no treble.” So, I guess women no longer need to ask her husband or girlfriend, “Do these pants make my butt look too big?” Apparently, it is popular to have a good bass.
When I read the scripture for today, I thought about the “Bass” tune and put them to music. “It’s all about resurrection, resurrection ….” Ms. Trainor wrote the lyrics to “All About that Bass” to help teenagers embrace their inner beauty and to promote a positive body image and self-acceptance. Paul wrote this letter to the Corinthians to help them understand that the birth and death of Jesus was all about the resurrection.
Dear God, for the believer, it’s all about your promise that upon our death, we, too, will be resurrected. Amen.
