“Clean up your act—the way you live, the things you do—so I can make my home with you in this place.” Jeremiah 7:3 (The Message Bible)
These word from God were spoken by the prophet, Jeremiah. He was called to try to shake loose the apathy and hopelessness of the people of Judah during a painful period before the fall of Jerusalem. God said that just floating along, getting by, and blaming everyone else for their sloppy, careless living is not acceptable. Jeremiah preached the wake-up plea over and over to deaf ears.
Today, Jeremiah is a popular prophet for people of faith. When we find ourselves living through a crisis or difficult times, due to unemployment, marital problem, illness, loss of family, fortune, etc., we go to Jeremiah to cheer us on—to coach us as a spiritual advisor.
Today, one of my dear friends is in a crisis situation that will affect her future. I can’t be with her across the miles, but I will be her Jeremiah—one who is praying, calling and leaving messages, sending positive thoughts to keep her strong, and letting her know that I care.
Lord, bless all who are in pain today. Wrap your arms around them and give them a sense of peace in their suffering. Amen.
