“So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given… Don’t put it off; do it now.” 2 Peter 1:5,10
Sometimes I get a little tug in my heart and my mind doesn’t rest until I figure out what God is trying to tell me. Often the task is little—like stopping in a rehab facility to visit a patient confined until he or she no longer needs additional care. I’m not fond of institution-type places, and I can think of a dozen reasons not to go. However, when I go, I feel God’s presence and am happy I followed through and did not put off the visit.
Early in our marriage, Glen’s Navy buddy and his wife from Wisconsin came to visit us in Iowa for a weekend. Our schedule was packed with things to do and lots of time “catching up.” However, we felt the need to take our friends to meet Glen’s parents. We chatted for a little over an hour and went home to prepare dinner. The next morning our friends went back to Wisconsin and tragically, Glen’s father and brother were killed in a cave-in accident while on the job.
We don’t know why God places dreams, expectations, tasks, etc. on our hearts, but when we become aware that he is present in mind, we must not blow it off. Glen and I always felt blessed we had had that last visit with Glen’s father before he died.
Lord, when you speak, help us hear you with our hearts. Amen.
