“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand.” Matthew 15:14,15
I bet I’ve given my grandsons at least half a dozen different types of flashlights to use when camping. They love getting them, yet because they are little boys and they lose them, break them, or wear out the batteries. When it comes time to light up their corner of the camper, they are out of luck.
I never had a flashlight as a kid. Every night before going to bed I had to make the short trip to the outhouse in the dark. I’d have to rely on moonlight or a dim light coming from a window on the east side of our farm house. I’m grateful I no longer have to make that type of a journey today.
Jesus challenges us to be the light of the world—the flashlight or moonbeam for those who do not know the path to salvation. This is not an easy task because no one wants to be preached to about religion. Therefore, we must show those who walk in the darkness enough light to make them want to learn more about why God’s light shines in our lives.
Lord, give us power to ignite our spirit-filled light for all to see Christ in us. Amen.
