Live each day …

“Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me, awake and ready for me [Lady Wisdom] each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day’s work.
When you find me, you find life, real life,
to say nothing of God’s good pleasure. Proverbs 8:34,35

This morning a blue heron flew by as I sat by the river. It even honked at me, but my camera wasn’t ready to capture this great sight. Perhaps I need to buy a surveillance camera and set it up on a tripod on the dock to steam all day.

My life is somewhat like the habits of the blue herons. They have no set time to fly by my cabin, they fly by quickly, and seem to have no purpose for the day, much of which is spent standing or wading in shallow water observing their environment.

Often these days, I stop and think, “Where have all the years gone?” I’m nearing 72, and it seems as if I was at my 50th birthday celebration just a few years ago. However, I choose not to allow the rest of my life to slip by missing the sights and sounds of grandchildren playing and laughing, vacations and day trips exploring the beautiful mountains and valleys of Pennsylvania, making new friends, and visiting relatives and old friends. Most importantly, I want to live the rest of my life learning more about God to prepare for the day when my schedule is free in Heaven.

Thank you, Lord, for my life and being able to live it my way. Amen.
