Living to the very end …

Stu was dying. He’s my friend’s husband who chose to forego treatment for cancer that would only give him extra time. The side effects would decrease his quality of life. He didn’t make this decision alone—he sought advice from his wife and family. They agreed that Stu should do it his way.

Stu spent quality time writing a blog and sharing the rest of his time on earth with others in an intimate way that gave everyone comfort and understanding of his “Last Voyage.” God calmed his stormy seas and gave him smooth sailing throughout his voyage.

Stu’s spirit about life and death gives me hope for my own “end of life” that will come in due time. I would feel blessed to be able share life-ending experiences as Stu did to give support to those I leave behind.

Dear Lord, what would you have me pass on some day to those I leave behind? Amen.
