Make a promise … keep it!

“Isn’t it clear, friends, that you, like Isaac, are children of promise.” Galatians 4:28

promiseWhen God makes a promise, he keeps it. God made two promises to Abraham. One, Abraham would become the Father of many nations, and a king would descend from him. We know the most famous descendant as Jesus.

Years ago, I hired a personal trainer to learn how to use the equipment in the fitness center. I promised myself I would work out regularly—at least three or four times a week—for the rest of my life. I remained faithful to my promise until I got sick. When I went back to the gym, it seemed more like a chore than a treat for my body. Then our winter quests arrived, and it became even more difficult to carve out time for the gym. I missed a week, then two, and it turned into months away from my promise.

After returning from my last vacation, I promised myself I would go back to the gym. I need to stop promising myself and make a pledge to God to take better care of my body.

Thank you, God, for following through with your promises to us. Amen.
