“God’s wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of his purposes … what God determined as the way to bring out his best in us long before we ever arrived on the scene.” 1 Corinthians 2:7-8
One fun way to figure out your goals for your future is to do a Life Map. Get a stack of old magazines, a pair of scissors, and a glue stick, and as you peruse through old magazines, cut out pictures that randomly catch your eye. Paste them onto a file folder or large piece of paper. Look at the picture map you’ve created and for a pattern that is developing. Focus on what you really want.
In Corinthians, Paul reminds us that God has already done the mapping in our lives. When we aren’t focused on our faith journey, we tend to go on detours or onto dead-end roads. Spiritual mapping can help us get back on course. At retreats I often use a blank U.S. map and ask participants to start where they were born and map out life events, such as where they were baptized, confirmed, married, etc. Some show little movement; others are all over the map.
The maps, whether for personal or spiritual growth, help us look at where we were and see possibilities for where we can go.
Thank you, Lord, for giving us insight from all the legs of our life journey. Amen.
