“Remember those early days after you first saw the light? Those were the hard times.” Hebrews 10:32 (The Message Bible)
My son gave us a used 7-foot tall artificial Christmas with 900 white lights. My husband and I assembled and decorated it before checking to see if those 900 lights even worked. When the time came to plug in the sections of lights, we held our breath, and “lo and behold” they worked!
On the day of the first party, I noticed that only the bottom string of lights was lit. That won’t work, I thought and challenged my electrician husband to resolve the issue. Fortunately, one of the connections was loose and everything above it failed. By gently wiggling the plug-in, the lights reappeared.
This year my Advent journey has been a bit like the lights on the Christmas tree. Some days all the lights shine; others only the top ones. Some days I feel the spirit moving during my meditation time; other days I struggle to write my blog by the end of the day.
Even if on Christmas Eve I need to sit underneath the Christmas tree and hold tightly to the connection that predictably will fail, the lights will shine on our celebration of the birth of Jesus!
Dear Lord, may your light shine through your son, Jesus, throughout the whole year. Amen.
