Mean What You Say — Daily Meditation Moment

“Why, anyone by just giving you a cup of water in my [Jesus] name is on our side.” Mark 9:41 (The Message Bible)

The disciple John approached Jesus and said, “Teacher, we saw a man using your name to expel demons and we stopped him because he wasn’t in our group.” (vs. 38) Jesus answered by saying that if someone speaks in his name, then he’s an ally–even if it is something as simple as giving a cup of water in his name.

I wish it were that simple to trust what people say in the name of Jesus, but frankly, there are many people who use religion for personal gain or to get even with someone else. So, how do we know when someone is sincerely doing a good deed in the name of Jesus? We can’t know…but God knows, and he judges the words and deeds of everyone.

Dear Lord, may my words and actions be acceptable to you. Amen.
