“I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you.” John 14:15
After whining a bit to my daughter about how hard it is to make friends in our senior community, she went on Meetup.com and found me new friends. I joined “Sun City Women’s New Friends Group” and have met women who want to go to lunch, water walk, and are flexible enough to pick and go on short notice.
In John 14, Jesus shares the fact about his relationship with God: “I am in my Father and my Father is in me” (vs. 11) and in verse 20 he says, “I’m in my Father, and you’re in me, and I’m in you.” My friends, this is beyond a friendship relationship. This is God in us.
Jesus knew he would die, and when telling the disciples he was “on his way to the Father,” he didn’t say “my” father. Jesus’ Father is our Father, too. To comfort and communicate with his friends on earth, Jesus said he would have a little chat with the Father, who would provide them with another Friend: The Holy Spirit.
Lord, thank you for my friends on earth and in heaven. Amen.
