Miracles and Signs

“All the while God was validating it [the message] with gifts through the Holy Spirit, and all sorts of signs and miracles, as he saw fit. Hebrews 2:4

attitudeI read a novel in which the main character went by signs. She didn’t believe in God but watched for signs. In order to get away from home, she rolled a pair of dice to decide how many tanks of gas she should run through before finding the place to relocate.

A friend recently told me her Zodiak sign had been changed. Astronomers from the Minnesota Planetarium Society found the moon’s gravitational pull on Earth had caused the alignment of the stars to be pushed by about a month. And, a new sign was added to fill in the gap. Most of my life I’ve been a Capricorn, but now I’m suddenly a Sagittarius. As I’m not a believer in my horoscope, it makes no difference to me, but to my friend, it has changed who she is. Apparently, our astrological sign is determined by the position of the sun on the day you were born and not anything to do with personality traits– a superstition of sorts.

I’m a bit superstitious, especially about silly little things, such as going in one door and out another. Crazy, I know, but I’m sure it means something like unfinished business or unexpected company. And there is the black cat, stepping on cracks, and the ladder thing.

Lord, help us seek a healthy attitude and truth instead of superstition. Amen.
