Music to My Ears — Daily Meditation Moment

May 11

“Round up an orchestra to play for God, add on a hundred-voice choir. Feature trumpets and big trombones, fill the air with praises to King God.” Psalm 98:5,6 (The Message Bible)

There were many activities (Girl Scouts, swim team, etc.) that I couldn’t take part in because of the fees. However, music in my public school was free! For seven years, I enjoyed being part of bands and choral groups. Getting up in front of people to be judged gave me a stronger platform to stand on today. I no longer sing to entertain, nor do I play the baritone saxophone, but the love of good music is embedded in my heart.

Tuesday evening I will sit in the audience and listen to my granddaughter Mikaila’s sixth grade band concert. She’s attends school at the Arizona School of the Arts in Phoenix—and studies trumpet and piano. I can hardly wait to hear how much they’ve improved since last fall. A few weeks ago, Glen and I sat in the same sanctuary and heard angels singing—the hundred plus students from the same school, who sang music as challenging as I what I performed in high school.

God continues to make music an important part of my life, not only through the talent of people, but also through the scores of music from birds outside my window and choruses from nature.

Lord, give me an open heart to allow music to feed my soul. Amen.
