“‘Where can we buy bread to feed these people?’ He [Jesus] said this to stretch Philip’s faith.” John 6:6 (The Message Bible)
Jesus already knew the answer to his question—he would perform another miracle and turn two fish and five loaves of bread into a feast to feed five-thousand people. Philip looked at the “purse” for an answer and told Jesus, “Two hundred silver pieces wouldn’t be enough to buy bread for each person to get a piece.”
We are challenged every day to think about how we can solve a situation. Last night we had a nice rain. This morning I let the dogs that I am taking care of out to do their thing. An hour later, I was greeted by the white standard poodle that had dug into the dirt and now had a black face and very dirty feet. When I wouldn’t let Cracker into the house, beneath the shaggy hair I saw sad eyes of rejection. I wondered how do I give a dog half my size a bath—hose him down or throw him into the horse tank?
This dirty-dog tale pales when compared with challenges you might be facing today. I pray that God will not only test you, but will lead you to the answer.
Dear Lord, help me turn a black dog into a white one. Amen.
