“But Amos stood up to Amaziah: ‘I never set up to be a preacher, never had plans to be a preacher. I raised cattle and I pruned trees. Then GOD took me off the farm and said, ‘Go preach to my people Israel.’” Amos 7:14-15 (The Message Bible)
Today, I am putting the finishing touches on a presentation for the retreat I’ll be doing next week in Chicago. When I read the message above, it made me wonder what I’d be doing today if I hadn’t felt called to minister to church support staff and other Christian organizations through writing and speaking. I’d have more time in retirement to hang out with my husband and family, read, golf, play bridge, watch movies, etc., but that wouldn’t satisfy the itch in my soul to “preach” through my writing.
As long as I have a brain to guide eyes to read, fingers to type, a mouth to speak, and a heart for ministry, I’ll keep plugging along doing my best to serve God.
Dear Lord, thank you for planting the desire in my heart and soul to serve you in whatever way I can. Amen.
