Noah …

“God liked what he saw in Noah.” Genesis 6:8

imageDespite the ratings of the movie Noah, Glen and I decided the big-screen production might be more interesting than a RedBox DVD on our TV. From the moment I saw Noah dressed in a coat and trousers instead of a robe, I knew the movie did not follow my Sunday School version of the story.  The movie dramatically took the biblical accounting of Noah and the great flood to a fictional level with mystical characters. The production was entertaining in spite of the story portrayed.

According to May 2014 Social Security statistics, Noah has become the most popular name for baby boys. Perhaps the movie had some influence on parents as they chose the name. As parents of a newborn son, we would hope he would grow to be strong and have the integrity of Noah. We would hope the same for a daughter — perhaps a new name, Anoah, could become popular with little girls.

Lord, let us learn from the story of Noah that as the Earth had a new beginning, through the flood waters of our baptism, we too are a new creation. Amen.
