“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for anyone you know.” 1 Timothy 2:1 (The Message Bible)
Prayer is as close as your breath or as far away as the clouds in the sky. I think we spend more time being concerned about how to pray then actually praying. Some people pray long, organized intercessory prayers (praying for others); others approach God as a divine Santa Claus with a wish list. Some chatter to God all day long as if he is their imaginary friend. (One can never have enough friends!)
When I think of praying, the image of a child kneeling at his bed, with his hands folded, head bowed and clutching a teddy bear, comes to mind. Perhaps that image serves a purpose: Our prayers can be as simple as that of a little child. It’s a great place to start…. “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray thee Lord my soul to keep ….”
Dear Lord, please hear my prayers no matter how unorganized they may be. Amen.
