On a Mission — Daily Meditation Moment

May 20

“In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.” John 17:18 (The Message Bible)

It may be difficult for some people to take this scripture personally. God sent Jesus, his only son, on a mission to save the world (as we read in the familiar passage of John 3:16). Before Jesus left this world, he charged the disciples and everyone else with the responsibility of having a mission of their own.

Some religions take this scripture in John 17 seriously, and the church sends their young adults out into the mission field to serve for a designated amount of time.

When I see a pair of young men, dressed in dark suits and riding bicycles, I sense they are missionaries and wonder how they continue to knock on doors when they are certain to get many door slammed in their faces.
But there are times when my faith is tested, and I wonder, “What is my real mission on earth?” However, when I meet someone going through a rough time, God calls me to serve in the mission field of encouragement— written or spoken.

What is your mission in life?

Dear Lord, give us a sense of mission that will please you. Amen
