“It’s because our leaders are stupid. They never asked God for counsel, and so nothing worked right. The people are scattered all over. Jeremiah 10:21 (The Message Bible)
These are the words of Jeremiah, summing up the behavior of the leaders in Judah, who developed their own Godless agenda.
With TV commercials being aired every few minutes during this presidential campaign period, “dirt” is being flung on both sides of the fence. I have my favorite candidate, but I’m not proud of him, either, especially when the ads become vicious—borderline untruthful, slanted, skewed, and pointed at the weakness of the opponent instead of tooting his horn for past accomplishments. I am aware that the candidates have many people working on the campaign, who develop the strategy to get their boss elected. They are clever, talented, and I believe some of them are heartless and act like the Godless leaders of Judah.
Regardless of what these people do and say, at the end or beginning of each TV ad, we hear. “I am ________________, and I approve this message.” I want to climb into the TV, shake him, and say, “Did you hear what they are saying? Did anyone bother to ask God for wisdom in preparing the clip?” Oh, my, we have nearly four months left of this campaign!
Dear God, shower wisdom on those who seek your counsel. Amen.
