Overthinking …

“Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping.” 1 Peter 5:8

imageI am a napper. A mini napper. I can sleep ten minutes sitting in a chair as easily as on my couch or bed. So, what’s happening while I nap? Is the Devil poised to pounce on me? If I gave up my spiritual growth practices and gave into living just for myself, I would be prey to anything evil that comes my way.

Fear is a form of the Devil. When I begin to fear even the little things in life, such as worrying if my alarm clock will awaken me at 4:00 a.m to catch an early flight, then what I’m really doing is lacking trust in the clock and my ability to set it right. So, I set two alarms. That takes the fear away. Crazy? Clearly an act of overthinking, but it works. What works to remove fear from your daily life?

Lord, give me trust in myself to conquer fear. Amen.
