“Truth spouts green from the ground; Right Living pours down from the skies!” Psalm 85:11 (The Message Bible)
As I write this message, I can hear tires spinning up the rain on the road. In the desert, this is a rare sound. The weatherman predicts it will rain off and on throughout the next few days. I’m already struggling to get into the Christmas spirit, and clouds and drizzle won’t help. In our Psalm message today, the writer referred to “Right Living” pouring down from the skies, and it was’t coming in the form of rain.
In Matthew, chapter 3, John the Baptist baptized Jesus, and immediately the skies opened up and a voice said, “This is my Son, chosen and marked by my love, delight of my life.” Perhaps this is why “Right Living” was capitalized in the scripture reference—Jesus was sent down to earth so that “truth” (how we should live) will sprout green from the ground.
During Advent, my faith needs a little shower to wash away greed, fear, disbelief, and to nourish my soul.
Dear God, part the clouds that linger over me today so that I may feel the warmth of your love. Amen.
