“Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, ‘Peace to you.'” John 20:20
In expressing sympathy, I often write, “May you find peace in the process of grieving your loss.” When going through new experiences or rough spot in our lives, we need peace to comprehend and accept what is happening to us and around us. Jesus knew that. After his resurrection, the first time he saw his disciples, he said, “Peace to you.”
Twice during that gathering Jesus used the same phrase, “Peace to you.” The second time he added, “Just as the Father sent me, I send you.” (vs. 21) Jesus knew the disciples would not be going back to their old jobs and former way of life and would need peace for the process of becoming apostles
As God sends us out to meet the world, we need to hear his greeting, “Peace to you.” Without peace, we can’t experience the gifts of love, joy, and happiness which leads to contentment on Earth.
Lord, give us peace for the process of discerning where you are sending us. Amen.
