[Jesus said] “You can pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what’s best—as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything you want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes.” Matthew 6:9-13 (From The Message Bible)
A couple of days ago, a woman from the neighborhood stopped by the garage sale Susan and I had. While she looked around, I told her It was a moving sale. When she asked, I told her Susan’s story–finished her PhD, got a job in Cortland, NY as an assistant professor, and needed to sell everything at the sale. The woman said, “I’ll pray for her.”
The next day, the woman stopped back, purchased a small item and met Susan. She said, “It was put upon my heart to come back today and pray for you. Would it be okay if we prayed right now?” We gathered in a circle, held hands, and she prayed the beautiful King James Version of of the Lord’s Prayer, and added petitions for Susan’s safety in the move and for a fulfilling new life.
It intrigued me that a stranger would pray for us at a garage sale. Perhaps I will watch for an occasion when prayer is on my heart. The woman didn’t know she had sown a seed.
Lord, bless those who bless our days. Amen.
